Ray Coles Statement
I am writing to thank you for your friendship and custom during my time as the Managing Director of Ultra Electronics Manufacturing and Card Systems which of course, is the home of the Magicard ID card printer.
My early team took our monochrome thermal printing technology used for Navy sonar applications and adapted it for colour ID card printing. That was back in 1993, and since then the business has grown dramatically and we have won two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise; A most enjoyable 18 years for me!
All good things come to an end however, and now it is my turn to leave the business and retire. Over the last few years I have been handing over the Magicard reins to Andy Matko, and in fact many of you may have forgotten I exist, which of course is how it should be!
I have the greatest faith in Andy and the team and I really do mean it when I say that he is already doing a much better job than I ever did.
So goodbye and thank you: for your advice, forbearance, and for your company at those fun packed trade-show get-togethers that I will miss so much.
Ultra and Magicard have been very successful, and we couldn’t have done it without you: our colleagues, customers and friends.
Warmest regards,
Ray Coles

Ray,
It was great knowing you. Under your leadership we saw Magicard growing to a professional and significant player in the ID business.
I wish you all the rest in the near future and that you have hobbies. Hopefully you will be able to do that. Because I am sure you will miss the industry.
best regards

Thankfully, we were there and you for us when all broke free. We appreciate your dedication, but most of all, your friendship. We look forward to many more rewarding years. You and Deborah were a great team. Too bad the Sacred Sea Room is no longer…….

Good afternoon Ray,
I want to wish you all the best as you move forward with your retirement. You will always be remembered as a true statesmen in the photo ID industry. Your generosity and kindness will always be rememered and the discussions we had at trade shows and over dinner will be missed.
Again, it has been a pleasure working with you and your organization. You have left it in great shape so enjoy those golden years. You justly deserve it.
Sincerely,
Bob Newman

I’m sure you will enjoy your retirement just as you have enjoyed your work. It was a true pleasure working with you and the team in the US, especially during the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. It was fun and we wish you the best of health and happiness. Play your heart out, you deserve it.
